Sefton Council axe funds at Southport’s Living Well Centre

    By COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTOR8th January 2016

Southport’s Living Well Centre is to face a reduction in funding after Sefton Council agreed cuts worth up to £135,450.

The reduction in funding will affect Sefton Carers Centre, which supports carers across the borough. The SCC is based at a building on South Road Road in Waterloo and at the Living Well centre in Southport.

The Sefton Council report say: “Following the conclusion of the review, it is proposed to reduce the funding allocation of the Main Core Grant and Carer’s Training by £64,000. The funding allocated for Substance Misuse – £71,450 will cease as part of the Public Health efficiencies. The reductions will take effect from 1st April 2016, subject to any comments from the Cabinet Member”

Councillor Paul Cummins, cabinet member for adult social care, quoted: “The cuts should not affect front line services. Unfortunately we have been forced to make these cuts owing to savage cuts our budget from the goverment”

Sefton Carers Centre supports carers services across the borough. The report reads: “Sefton Carers’ Centre (SCC) provide a focal point for carers to access information and a range of services, as well as developing joint initiatives and communication networks to raise awareness and improve the health and wellbeing of carers in the Sefton area.”
