S&B Cricket welcomes Lancashire back to Trafalgar Road

Lancashire will play Worcestershire in a Division Two County Championship fixture at Southport’s Trafalgar Road in May 2026, continuing a long history of matches at the ground.

Southport & Birkdale Cricket have announced that Trafalgar Road will host Lancashire’s Division Two fixture against Worcestershire in May.

Worcestershire will head to Southport on 15 May 2026.

Lancashire took to the field at Southport last year against Nottinghamshire, with James Anderson taking a remarkable seven for 35, in what his first Championship match in over 12 months.

S&B said on Facebook: “We are incredibly proud to welcome Lancashire back which is a huge achievement for everyone involved.

“This fixture is another highlight in what promises to be a fantastic 2026 for S&B, sitting alongside our Golf & Glamping Festival in July, coinciding with The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, and of course our annual Beer Fest.

“Further details on hospitality, tickets, and match arrangements will be released in due course.”

Alongside S&B’s own important contribution to local sport, its Trafalgar Road ground has been the scene of a number of remarkable moments in Lancashire’s history, serving as an outground for Lancashire since 1956.

Approximately 10,000 witnessed Farokh Engineer hit 78 not out in a nine-wicket victory over Glamorgan in 1969 while in 1982, Graeme Fowler strained his thigh while fielding on the first day during Warwickshire’s innings of 523–4 declared, but batted without a runner to score 26 not out at stumps. He then scored exactly 100 before lunch on the second day with David Lloyd as his runner.

In the second innings, Ian Folley ran for him when Fowler scored 128 not out on the third day.
