Southport FC have announced they will play two pre-season friendlies away at Witton Albion and Nantwich Town.

The Sandgrounders will play Witton Albion on Tuesday 11th of August and Nantwich Town on Saturday 5th of September.

The club said on southportfc.net: “With the restrictions regarding Covid-19 evolving all the time, it remains to be seen whether our pre-season games will be played behind closed doors or how many, if any, can be held in public.“

“The club is in dialogue with the relevant authorities and other clubs as we look to finalise a full schedule so the players are ready for the new campaign when it begins.

“We will announce the games as they are confirmed with as much detail as possible.”

A government update last week said it was hoped audiences could return to stadia from 1st October “in a Covid-19 secure way” if prevalence remains around or below current levels.

Southport FC, who haven’t been able to play a competitive fixture since March, also said they are still waiting on confirmation for a starting date for the 2020-21 Vanarama National League North season.

Both the Premier League and EFL announced today that their seasons would start on the weekend on 12th September.
