Run with purpose – Southport Seaside 10k 2014
For Immediate release: August 2014 Local charity Galloway’s Society for the Blind is looking for runners to run in the Southport Seaside 10k and 2k fun run, which takes place next month on 28th September.
The race, which is organised by Natterjack Running, based on Eastbank street involves two laps of the scenic marine lake, starting and ending at Princes Park. All Galloway’s runners will receive a medal, certificate and t-shirts for taking part as well as a welcome pack detailing how their support helps.
Emma Wilson, Fundraiser at Galloway’s, commented, “As a charity we strive to support local blind and partially sighted people through their sight loss journey, helping them to regain their independence and minimise the effects living with reduced vision.
We do this through specialist equipment and advice, talking newspapers, escorted holidays activities, crafts, outdoor sports and support groups. Simple things such as a £7 liquid level reader which means a visually impaired person can make a hot drink safely or a £20 talking watch so they always know the time can make a big difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people, helping them to maintain their independence.
£50 sponsorship could cover the cost of the equipment needed to receive our talking newspapers, £150 could buy an easy reader so blind and partially sighted people can read their own mail, books, cooking instructions etc and £200 could pay for someone to go on a life changing weekend away taking part in confidence building activities, proving they can still live life to the full.”
Whether you run, jog or walk the 10k you can do it with a smile on your face knowing you have made a difference to the lives of local blind and partially sighted people living in the community.
Registration for the event is open and anybody wanting to register should contact Emma Wilson on 01704 809109, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit the race website at: www.natterjackseaside10k.com
