Road rage Fatal RTC A580 Formby Bypass Southport

The emergency services were called to the Formby Bypass at approximately 11:30am this morning (Monday 7th October 2013) following reports of a RTC.

A car travelling towards Liverpool hit a lamppost about 500 yards after being involved in road rage.

A witness reported seeing two vehicles involved in road rage approaching the second roundabout along the Formby Bypass Southbound.

Next thing he saw was a silver coloured saloon car hitting a lamppost and the other vehicle driving off towards Liverpool.

The witness went back to the scene to help the driver but unfortunately the accident proved fatal.

The NWAA was on standby but not used.

Police have closed Formby Bypass and a diversion is in place.

An investigation is underway.

Police would like to thank motorists for their patience while the road remains closed.

UPDATE: 16:51 MONDAY 7 OCTOBER 2013

The vehicle was removed from the scene by FMC Recovery at 4:50pm and the road has reopened.

WITNESS APPEAL: FATAL RTC – FORMBY BY-PASS, HIGHTOWN/ALTCAR, SEFTON
Merseyside Police can confirm that an investigation is underway after a serious road traffic collision near Hightown in Sefton this morning (Monday 7th October 2013).
Officers were called at 11.30am following reports that a silver car had been involved in a collision on the A565 Formby By-pass.
On arrival they found a badly damaged car and the male driver trapped inside. Colleagues from Mersey Fire and Rescue Service freed the man but he was pronounced dead at scene by paramedics.
A red van is believed to have been on the same stretch of road when the collision occured and investogators are keen to hear from the driver of that vehicle, or any other motorists who witnessed the incident.
The southbound carriageway of the A565 Formby By-pass has been closed from the roundabout where the By-pass meets Liverpool Road.
The northbound carriageway of the By-pass has been closed just after its junction with North End Lane.
Police have put a diversion in place but motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible while the road closures are in place.

OTS News.co.uk understands the driver of a red van that was involved in a road rage fatal accident this morning is currently being questioned by police.

The driver of a silver coloured Renault Clio was killed when his vehicle struck a lamppost along the Formby Bypass at 11:30am.

The driver who is thought to be in his mid 30’s was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving

Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of a 49-year-old Southport man who died on Monday in a RTC along the Formby Bypass.

The men, aged 34 and 39 and from Merseyside, are being held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The Southport man was killed when his silver Renault Clio left the Formby bypass and hit a lamp-post.

A red VW van thought to be involved in a road rage incident left the scene before emergency services arrived.

The van matching its description was later recovered in the Sefton area.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place later to establish the cause of the man’s death.

Merseyside Police can confirm that the man who died following a road traffic collision on the Formby by-pass yesterday (Monday, 7 October) has been named as father-of-two Jeffrey Graham Argent, aged 49, from Southport.  An investigation into the full circumstances of the incident is ongoing
