RIP | Former Port Player Fred Molyneux

2nd October 2019

We are saddened to learn of the passing of our former defender Fred Molyneux. Fred was part of the Port side which reached the FA Cup Fifth Round and won promotion to Division 3 in the 1960s, playing 155 league games in total.

Fred made his debut against Bury in August 1965 and after spells at Plymouth and Tranmere rejoined Southport and played 32 times in the 1973/74 season.

He was our player of the year in 1967/68 when he was an ever present.

Fred is pictured, third from the left, with fellow Southport players, Arthur Peat, Dave Pearson and Terry Harkin, reacting to being drawn against Everton in 1968.

Our thoughts and condolences are with Fred’s family and friends.
