Retired Edge Hill administrator killed as floods hit southern France

7th October 2015

A 62-year-old woman from Lancashire died in flash flooding in the south of France at the weekend, the Foreign Office has confirmed.

The Foreign Office confirmed today that Linda Martinez was the British national killed in the flood after relatives gave permission for her name to be released.

The 62-year-old, who lived in Haskayne, is believed to have drowned when a river flowing past the campsite where she was staying with her husband, in the French Riviera, burst its banks.

She was reportedly staying on a campsite near Antibes, which was one of the towns hit by violent storms.

Mrs Martinez had recently retired from her role as an administrator at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk.

At least 19 people have been found dead following the floods.
