Result: Southport 1-1 Aldershot

Luke Foster’s second-half header helped Southport secure a point against Aldershot Town at Haig Avenue.

Jim Stevenson gave the visitors the lead as Max Crocombe unconvincingly punched away Cheye Alexander’s curling cross into the box.

Foster brought the scores level when he nodded home Adam Blakeman’s corner kick to set up a tense finale.

Dan Walker volleyed against the bar for Aldershot, and Andy Wright went close for Southport in the closing stages.

Aldershot boss Barry Smith said:

“It was a very good performance. I thought we were very dominant and we’ve created so many chances and on another day you can win comfortably.

“When you don’t defend a set-piece, having not finished them off when we had the chances, it comes back to haunt you.

“We’ve had so many chances, with hitting the woodwork twice, that if we were composed they would be finished off. Everyone is disappointed not going home with three points.”
