Staff at a Southport charity which helps people fight injustice say they have never been busier than this month.

Citizens Advice Bureau offers free, independent and confidential help to those facing money problems and just after Christmas is the time when their specialist knowledge is most needed.

Citizens Advice Sefton had around 150 people to seek advice for debt concerns in January, with typical advice sought for rent arrears, council tax, fuel debt and credit debts.

Analysis of national data over a 12- month period reveals that on their busiest day last year, January 29, 2019, the char- ity’s offices helped 2,776 people. This is 24% above their daily average.

In 2017 and 2018, the busiest day for debt advice fell on January 31, with 2,762 and 2,775 clients seeking help respectively.
