Resort clubs and theatres push for furlough scheme extension

30th September 2020

Nightclubs, bars and theatre venues in Southport are encouraging residents to support a petition calling on the government to extend the furlough scheme for the theatre and live music industry.

This month (October) the furlough scheme comes to an end with different methods being put in place to help save certain but not all jobs impacted by the coronavirus.

Live music venues, theatres and nightclubs have been considerably impacted by the recent lockdown and are still unable to operate due to strict government rules.

Clubs such as Banff on West Street shared the growing petition which now has over 30,000 signatures nationally.

A petition sponsor said “Without theatres and live music venues where will your culture grow? We need theatre from Shakespeare to Jack in the Beanstalk. Live music venues start people’s careers & I argue that Rap to Opera are as important to our culture as football & pubs.”

A Post on Banff’s Instagram page said “the music and entertainment industry need your help. Please go and sign.”
