A well known Southport businessman is alleged to have been three times over the drink drive limit at 9am in the morning.

Joseph ‘Joey’ Sammon, 43, is facing a court date after being accused of being more than triple the drink driving limit when police tried to pull him over, following an incident in Southport’s rural Wyke Cop farming area.

Appearing in magistrates this week, Sammon entered no plea after also being accused of driving without care and failing to stop in relation to the incident on February 27, when he was allegedly behind the wheel of a van.

A vehicle had been reported to be blocking Wyke Lane, with Lancashire Constabulary officers being called to the scene, reports detail.

Sammon, of Cypress Road, faced all three charges at Preston Magistrates Court but gave no plea.

A trial date has been set for Tuesday, September 28.
