Sefton residents are being invited to a Christmas market with a difference in Southport early next month.

The event at the New Leaf garden centre on Rotten Row will feature festive goods created by people who use the services of the borough’s leading adult social care provider, New Directions.

The Christmas fayre will take place at New Leaf’s Park Lodge site from 11am to 3pm on Saturday 1st December.

Organisers say there will be a wide variety of seasonal items on offer, all produced by people with support needs.

Gift ideas will range from wooden clocks, house plants and bird boxes to table runners, aprons and cushions.

Other unusual handcrafted goods will include upcycled household items, wooden angels, animals and signs and even hand-knitted Christmas tree decorations.

Meanwhile, the green-fingered gardening enthusiasts who attend New Leaf have also been working on a range of Christmas trees and yuletide plants, wreaths and grave pots.

Refreshments will also be available at the market, which is being organised by the same team that previously worked on the New Directions show garden which collected a gold medal at Southport Flower Show in 2017.

New Leaf Project Co-ordinator, Angela Green, commented: “Everyone here has been working extremely hard to prepare for the Christmas market, so we’re hoping for a big turnout on the day.

“Visitors will have the chance to buy unique, handcrafted items that are only available here at New Leaf.

“And as well as having the chance to choose from this range of unusual items, customers will have the satisfaction of knowing that any money they spend will be ploughed back into providing more resources and opportunities for the people who attend New Leaf,” added Angela.
