Shaun Whalley’s 77th minute strike gave Southport FC maximum points in the Boxing Day Local Derby at home to Macclesfield Town.
Whalley fired home the winning goal after Macclesfield had battled their way back from two goals down in the first-half.
The result lifts Sandgrounders up to 18th place in the Blue Square Premier League table and out of the Relegation Zone.
Southport started the match well and they were a goal ahead inside 24 minutes when a free kick by Whalley was headed home by Liam Willis.
Sandgrounders doubled their lead inside five minutes as Karl Ledsham played the ball through to Chris Almond and he steered home a low finish.
Macclesfield came out fighting after the half-time break and they pulled a goal back when Jack Mackreth fired the ball in from the right.
Then the visitors equalised as Southport Old Boy John Paul Kissock swung in a corner that was turned home by Amari Morgan Smith.
Southport looked like they would be settling for a draw but up popped Whalley late on as he converted a right wing cross from Andy Parry to seal the points.
