A brace from skipper Simon Grand saw Southport FC take all three points against fellow strugglers Telford United.

Grand scored twice in the second half and substitute Chris Almond scored another as Sandgrounders ran out comfortable winners.

Southport started the match well and they nearly took the lead when striker Andy Owens had a double shot that was saved by keeper Ryan Young.

Telford came back into the game and they had the best chance of the half when James Spray fired in a volley that rattled the Southport bar.

Sandgrounders were too strong for Telford in the second-half and they started the half with a shot from Shaun Whalley that Young saved.

Grand gave Southport the lead when on 65 minutes he headed in a long throw from Owens.

He scored again quickly after that with another header from a Whalley corner.

Almond sealed the points with 13 minutes remaining with a fine shot from the edge of the area.

Telford pulled back a consolation goal late on when Jake Reid fired in a low finish.

Southport move up to 17th place in the table and they are five points above Telford.
