Renowned Southport martial artist completes a lifetime dream of publishing a book

Pete McDowell renowned as one of Southport’s foremost martial artists, has completed a lifetime dream of publishing a book. His novel, ‘Slayers of the Dark Web’, sits in the genre of the crime thriller. Launched on October 31st it is already picking up 5 star reviews on Amazon.

In the pen name of Woodrow McKane the journey to publishing has taken just under two years.  Pete quotes.

“Initially the novel took six months to write, however as I had not written since my school days some time back in the 17th century it needed a serious edit!  Months later a chance introduction to Sean Connolly (another Author from Southport) led me to meeting the BBC director David Lewis Richardson. David wanted to train – I needed a book editor – deal sealed. One year later, after a lot of hard work, the book was reduced from 165k to 131k words. In a nut shell David took me back to school. Now the book is finally published I am delighted in the way it is being received by the reader. It has given me the confidence to continue with my second and third books – the latter will be jointly written with David. Have I got a future in the literary world? Most certainly it won’t be from the lack of trying.”

Rather fittingly one of the main characters is based around Pete’s karate instructor Grand Master Ronnie Colwell (RIP). As pete says I was pleased to be able to tribute Ronnie, who now sits in printed word forever.

Slayers official book launch and signing will be on 10th of December at Broadhursts of Southport from 11am – 2pm. For any one purchasing a copy of Slayers on the day their name will be entered into a draw to be used as one of the leading characters in ‘McKane’s’ next book – The Slayers Redemption.

‘Slayers of the Dark Web’ Amazon –

“A great read with a fascinating, relevant and “of our time” storyline. An alchemy of brutality and tenderness written with an emotional intelligence that supports its deep and complex characters. A definite “one more chapter” book.”
