Rail union want talks with Metro Mayor

28th November 2017

Union RMT said it will be seeking a meeting with Liverpool City Region’s Metro Mayor Steve Rotherham to secure a “positive and constructive response” to proposals put forward by MPs to resolve the Merseyrail dispute.

RMT is in dispute with Merseyrail over on-board staffing arrangements on the new fleet driver-only-operated trains, which will be introduced in 2020.

Liverpool’s MP’s discussed the issue in the House of Commons on Wednesday, November 22 and Walton MP Dan Carden said: “I want this dispute to be resolved as quickly as possible, and the basis of that must be agreement in principle to keep the guard on the train.”

RMT members have yet to release details of their strikes on Merseyrail and Northern Rail in December.
