Rail strikes to cause Saturday blues for MONTHS

28th August 2018

Union bosses have added three more strike days on Northern Rail over the long-running dispute over the plans to bring in driver-only trains, which means there will be disruption for travellers for the next five Saturdays.

The RMT has announced they will now be on strike on Saturday, September 15; Saturday, September 22 and Saturday, September 29.

This is addition to the existing programme of action which goes ahead on Saturday, August 25; Saturday, September 1 and Saturday, September 8.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said: “RMT has made every effort to get serious and meaningful talks going with Northern but instead of making progress towards a settlement that matches the best practice in the rail industry as negotiated elsewhere the company have opted instead to play and fast and loose making a mockery of the exercise.

“It is the pig headed and arrogant attitude of the company that has forced us to announce this next phase of action and to confirm that the strikes planned from Saturday go ahead.
