Rail strikes add further misery to town’s transport woes

12th August 2022

There is set to be more public transport misery for Southport residents next week as train signal officers prepare to strike.

Merseyrail will be running a limited train service on Thursday 18 and Saturday 20 August meaning many will struggle to get to their destinations.

It comes as Arriva bosses prepare for a fifth week without any sign of a bus service in Southport due to a row over paying their staff.

Whilst Merseyrail staff are not part of this industrial action, it will involve Network Rail staff who operate the signalling systems and provide maintenance support.

For Southport residents trains will only run hourly, calling at Southport, Formby, Blundellsands & Crosby, Waterloo, Moorfields and Liverpool Central.

There will be no rail replacement buses on strike days and passengers are advised to make alternative travel arrangements if you cannot make your planned journey using the train service that will operate.
