Public opinion in Southport is swinging behind a People’s Vote.

Campaigners for a ‘People’s Vote’ were out in force in Southport and Formby at the weekend trying to persuade local people of the case for a referendum to be held on the final Brexit deal, once it is agreed with the EU.

People’s Vote campaigner and Southport’s Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, John Wright, said: “We had a great response. Lots of people wanted to sign our People’s Vote petition, and fill in our ‘Brexitomteter’ which was designed to let people show how they are feeling about Brexit at the moment. There were quite a few people who had changed their minds since the 2016 referendum – people who had voted Leave but were now saying that what they had been promised was not happening, and that Brexit was turning into a disaster. Majority opinion definitely seems to be swinging in favour of a People’s Vote, with an option to Remain”.

Mr Wright went on to say: “People’s Vote campaigners are from all parties and none. We’ll carry on making the case for a referendum on the final deal, once the facts are known”.

This month, People’s Vote campaigners from Southport will be joining an anticipated half a million marchers in London on the 20th October, as they take their campaign to the streets of the capital.
