Princes Trust rely on a little help from their friends

10th July 2018

green-fingered gardeners have teamed up with local volunteers to help maintain Southport’s Rotten Row.

The beautiful flowering borders along the Row were established over 100 years ago and are well- recognised and much appreciated by local resid- ents.

The borders play a prominent role in the Southport Air Show, Southport in Bloom and Southport Flower Show and are restored and maintained by a devoted group of volunteers, the Friends of Rotten Row – and the gardens are even set to feature in a BBC 2 programme Britain in Bloom at the end of this year or start of next year.

The Friends group were joined by young volunteers taking part in the Prince’s Trust Team programme.

The programme is managed by the environmental charity Groundwork and aimed at 16-25 year olds who are not currently in employment, education or training.

It helps them to develop new skills, build their confidence and improve their employment prospects. As part of the programme, participants are required to deliver a project that benefits the local community.
