PREVIEW | Spennymoor V Southport

9th November 2019

Southport will be focusing on keeping their strong run of form going into the Vanarama National League North on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Spennymoor.

Despite the midweek elimination from the Lancashire FA Partners Challenge Trophy, Liam Watson’s side have been rising up the table in the league, with four wins in their last four games.

Saturday’s opponents, Spennymoor Town, have also been in excellent form, and are unbeaten in their last eight league games.

During that run, which goes back to the start of September, the Moors have won five and drawn three.

Victories have included a 5-0 win over Blyth Spartans and a 5-1 win over Gloucester City, with both games taking place at Brewery Field.

One of the key players for Jason Ainsley’s side has been Glen Taylor, who has scored seven times so far this term.

The striker was the stand out player in the competition last year with 21 goals and has continued that form in the opening months of this season.

When the two sides last met, Taylor scored an 87th minute penalty to cancel out Jack Sampson’s opener in a 1-1 draw.

Meanwhile the Moors left it even later in the clash between the pair at the Pure Stadium, as Taylor equalised late again, this time in the fourth minute of additional time.

Both teams will be hoping to go one better this time, as they look to keep their strong league runs going.
