With the Southport managing to get the first victory of the New Year under the belt in the week against Guiseley, the side will look to make it back-to-back wins as Leamington are the visitors on Saturday 12 January (3pm KO).
The unbeaten run just goes on and on for Liam Watson’s side, with the last league defeat still being against Blyth Spartans all the way back in October.
Jack Sampson’s eleventh goal of the season in all competitions was enough to give the lads all three points against Guiseley, propelling the team even further up the table.
One of the teams they have now risen above is this weekend’s opponents, Leamington.
The Brakes currently sit in 13th, only one point behind Southport, but winless since the end of November.
That last victory was a 2-1 win over Alfreton, with six draws and one defeat since.
Leamington come into this match on the back of a draw (1–1) with Guiseley last weekend, showing once again they are a solid outfit but lack that winning edge.
Their last defeat came against Telford in their last game of 2018, suffering a 4-1 humiliation.
It certainly wasn’t the way manager Paul Holleran would’ve wanted to end a year, which had seen The Brakes only just survive relegation from the National League North.
That defeat came after taking the lead in fourth minute through a Colby Bishop goal.
That strike was his tenth league goal of the season, and if anyone is going to fire Leamington back to winning ways it will be the former Notts County man.
This match will be a tight meeting, with both sides proving hard to beat in the last few months. Leamington will be desperate to get the winning feeling again, whilst Liam Watson will want to see his side continue the march up the table.
