PREVIEW | Kidderminster Harriers V Southport FC

3rd November 2018

PREVIEW | League Away, Cups Home

After Tuesday’s draw against Curzon Ashton, Southport head back on the road to secure some more vital points against familiar opposition in Kidderminster Harriers to kick-start a busy November with a mixture of league and cup requirements on Saturday’s and Tuesday’s.

The Harriers are having a strong season in the league so far, currently sitting in second place, one point behind the pacesetters Chorley.

The Reds are also the league top scorers with 33 goals and head into the fixture with extra confidence after they put four past Leamington in the week.

A big part of the deadly attacking threat is Ed Williams, with 10 so far to his name. Striker Ashley Chambers is also one to be watched, bagging six himself, as he aims to replicate the 19 he got at Nuneaton in the last campaign.

Meanwhile Kidderminster’s top scorer from last season, Joe Ironside who got 19 himself, currently has four and will be a big threat too.

One thing that could give the Port confidence is that Neil MacFarlane’s side have lost twice this season, with the most recent being against FC United of Manchester.

The Scottish manager has been in charge since May after previous coaching roles at MK Dons and Fleetwood, but Kidderminster being his first management job.

The 41 year-old will be hoping to improve on the sides fourth place finish, with the Reds losing 2-0 against Bradford Park Avenue in the play-off qualifying round.

When Southport met them last season, Kidderminster got two 3-0 wins to do the double over the club.
