Southport make a long trip to Gloucester City this weekend as they look to return to winning ways in the Vanarama National League North.

Liam Watson’s side will be looking to build on their 4-1 win in the Liverpool Senior Cup during the week.

As one of a number of players to have missed games recently through injury or illness, Connor Woods bagged a hat-trick against Pilkington.

This weekend’s opponents, Gloucester, have been one of the division’s strugglers this season.

James Rowe’s side sit only three points above the bottom two, but do have games in hand on the teams around them.

The Tigers last victory came on New Year’s Day, but you have to go back to October to find another win prior to that.

Their last two games have both ended in 2-1 away defeats, against Darlington and Guiseley.

The biggest loss for Rowe’s side this campaign came against Spennymoor, as they suffered a 5-1 battering.

A player to watch for the Port defence is Joe Hanks, who is the top scorer for the Tigers this season with ten goals, which is the same amount as David Morgan.

Gloucester currently play at the Spires & Hartwell Stadium, home of Evesham United.

When these two teams met last month, it was Watson’s side who came out on top.

Only one goal separated the teams, as a 36th-minute strike from Brad Bauress gave the Port all three points in their last home win in the league.

Southport will be hoping that they can get a similar result this time, with a win being crucial after the recent run of results.
