    Police vow to get answers for RTC victim’s family

    Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to come forward following a serious collision in Birkdale on Thursday 11 September.

    At around 8.10pm, it was reported that a white MG HS car had been involved in a collision with a male pedestrian on the Coastal Road, near to the public footpath adjacent to Selworthy Road.

    Emergency services attended the scene and the man, aged in his 50s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

    A 54-year-old woman from Ainsdale was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless/inconsiderate driving and driving whilst unfit through drugs. She has since been interviewed and released under investigation.

    Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, Lead Investigating Officer from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This is a tragic incident which has left a man in hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. It is our priority to get answers for his family and I appeal to the public to help us do that by contacting us if you have information which will assist the investigation.”

    “Although someone was arrested, I am keeping an open mind about the circumstances. I believe there were other motorists who were driving past at the time who could have vital information to help our ongoing investigation.

    “If you were travelling along the Coastal Road or were in the area of the footpath that leads to Selworthy Road/Westbourne Road at or around the time of this incident and saw a male pedestrian, the collision or anything else that you feel we need to be aware of, please get in touch.

    “Additionally, If you have dashcam footage, please review it in case you captured anything that could assist. Front and rear cameras can often capture evidence that you may be totally unaware of. Any help we receive, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could help.”
