Police urge vigilence after discovery of sweets laced with cannabinoid

20th October 2020

Police are asking Southport residents to be vigilant after packs of sweets laced with THC, the principal constituent of cannabis, were discovered in a North West post office.

The sweets contained enough THC to make them up to “50 times stronger than a joint.”

While the sweets were discovered in a package in a post office in Blackburn and addressed to Cumbria, police are urging residents across the region to be cautious.

Lancashire Police said: “We are urging people to be vigilant after a batch of sweets, containing THC, a cannabinoid found in cannabis, were recently intercepted by officers in Blackburn as well as Cumbria.

“The confectionary items, disguised in ‘Nerds Rope’ packaging, contain the cannabis oil which could be 50 times stronger than a joint.

“Lancashire Police officers recently intercepted the items at a post office in Blackburn, with officers in Cumbria finding a package due to be delivered in Windermere.

“If you have any information about these sweets or have been offered them for sale, please come forward and call 101.”
