Police have swooped on a suspected thief after chasing him through back streets in Southport tonight.
Officers from Merseyside Police caught and arrested a male on Saunders Street this evening just after 5.30pm after he was chased through nearby streets.
Witnesses described hearing police shouting for the male to stop before he was cornered by officers in two unmarked police cars.
Officers who gave chase on foot successfully tackled the male and detained him before he was arrested.
Witnesses say they believe the man had been wanted in connection with a robbery however this has yet to be confirmed by Merseyside Police.
