Watch out for 24 hours of speed checks on these roads as part of European wide operation.

Police set up roadside speed traps in Southport today (Thursday 19 April) following complaints from local residents about speeding motorists.

Merseyside Police officers will be joining colleagues across Europe in carrying out speed checks on Wednesday (April 19).

The ‘Speed Enforcement Marathon’ initiative will run for 24-hours across Europe and officers in Merseyside will be focusing on areas in Merseyside voted for by members of the public through Twitter. This week’s action forms part of a week-long speed enforcement operation led by TISPOL, the European Traffic Police network.

The areas which have been chosen are as follows:

    Sefton Area

Brooms Cross Road in Thornton, Stanley Road in Bootle, Dunningsbridge Road in Netherton (Copy Lane to Switch Island), and Ravenmeols Lane in Formby.

    Liverpool Area

Queens Drive, Breck Road, Walton Hall Avenue, Menlove Avenue, East Prescot Road, Woolton Road, Muirhead Avenue East, Rathbone Road, The Strand, Church Road (Wavertree)

    St Helens / Knowsley Area

Longview Drive (Huyton), Higher Road, Marshall’s Cross Road, Rainford By Pass, Jackson Street, Roby Road, Dunriding Lane, Scholes Lane, Standish Street, Bleak Hill Road.
