Police scour Scarisbrick Hotel after one arrest over sexual offence allegation involving a child

Forensics units have been called to a Southport hotel following an alleged sexual assault involving a child.

Two teams of specialist scientific forensics officers from Merseyside Police, along with detectives, were called to the Scarisbrick Hotel this morning after an allegation that a minor was involved in sexual assault.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with a child. He remains in custody.

Officers have been present at the hotel since this morning, while a strong police presence was visible in the town centre.

A police spokesperson said “We can confirm officers are today, Wednesday 3rd November, at the Scarisbrick Hotel on Lord Street in Southport following an allegation of a sexual offence.
 
“The investigation is in the very early stages.
 
“A 34 year-old has today been arrested on sexual activity with a child and is currently in custody.
 
Enquiries remain ongoing.”
