Jo Barton, Meols ward councillor is keen to see them removed from the site as swiftly as possible.

She said:

“As soon I became aware of the travellers’ impromptu camp on the public land on Preston New Road I reported it to Sefton MBC and to Merseyside Police.

“I have been assured by council officers that steps will taken to move them on to a more suitable place as soon as possible.

“The land opposite the football fields, was, I believe gifted to the public for the use of recreation and cannot be taken over for the use of one individual or group and I hope this situation can be resolved to everyone’s satisfaction, and without incident, as swiftly as possible.”
