Man arrested after gun scare on Weld Road beach

A 35-year-old man has been arrested after a gun scare Weld Road beach in Birkdale.

Officers were called to Birkdale Beach car park shortly after 9.45am following reports that a man had been seen with a ‘firearm.’

Police discovered what is thought to have been a knife and an air gun. They then arrested a 35-year-old Southport man on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm in a public place and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was taken to Southport’s custody suit in Liverpool where he will be questioned.
