Neighbourhood police are clamping down on speeding motorists across Southport.

Police have launched a crackdown on speeding drivers as they say they are putting lives at risk.

Officers targeted a number of hot spots in 20 mph driving zones in response to concerns being voiced by residents.

Today officers with speed cameras identified motorists going too fast on the Southport New Road and Balmoral Drive which is a 20 mph zone.

The drivers caught speeding were issued with warnings and told that they could face further action if they are caught driving dangerously in the future.

The crackdown comes after residents complained to the police that drivers were putting other road users, such as cyclists by going too fast.

Mersyside Police will continue their operation over the coming weeks.
