Police called after man climbs bridge to hang controversial sign

14th November 2020

Stunned dog walkers in Kings Gardens were left open mouthed this morning after watching a man climb across Marine Lake Bridge to hang a controversial sign.

The banner, which bears the slogan ‘white lives matter, adopted by far right activists, including the group Patriotic Alternative, as a combatant to the recent Black Lives Matter movement, was stuck to the outer wall of the Marine Lake Bridge this morning.

Police were immediately called following the incident given the concern for safety for the unidentified male who was inches from slipping and falling into the near freezing waters of the Marine Lake.

By the time police responded the banner had already been quickly removed by a member of the public. It’s understood the banner was erected by the same organisation that was involved in a anti immigration leaflet ‘drop’ across Southport a week ago.
