A 27-year-old man from Oldham was arrested on Saturday afternoon by officers on patrol in Southport town centre, who were flagged down by a member of the public.

Initially the man was searched on suspicion of possession of controlled drugs. He was found to be in possession of a large amount of cash and property that led to his arrest on suspicion of theft.

Further large amounts of property were found in the car being used by the man, which was not registered to him. This led to him being further arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle and suspicion of possession of criminal property. The man was then taken to custody.

We have increased our patrols of the town centre and retail areas on the lead up to Christmas.
