The following summary of planned new and ongoing road improvements over the coming week is correct as of Friday 18 September and could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances. All our improvement work is carried out with the aim of causing as little disruption as possible.

M6 Junction 24 Ashton to Junction 25 Wigan

A scheme to resurface sections of the main carriageway and slip roads around these junctions will be completed in October. All the work is overnight, between 9pm and 6am, involving single slip road and lane closures.

M6 Junction 38 Brough to Junction 39 Shap

Work to resurface sections of the southbound carriageway near Tebay Services is due to start on Monday 21 September. Contractors will also install new reflective road studs, replace road markings and carry out repairs to two bridges. Two lanes will be open to traffic during the day, between 6am and 8pm, and one lane overnight, between 8pm and 6am. A 50mph speed limit will be in place. The southbound exit slip road will also be closed overnight on Wednesday 23 September, and the southbound entry slip road will be closed overnight on Thursday 24 September, with diversions in place. The project is due to be completed by the end of October.

M53 Junctions 8 to 9 Ellesmere Port

A half-a-mile stretch of the M53 will be closed overnight this weekend for resurfacing and bridge maintenance work. The southbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 8 and 9 on Friday 18 September, from 8pm until 6am, and again on Saturday 19 September, from 9pm until 6am. One lane will remain closed during the day on Saturday, and the southbound entry slip road at junction 8 and the southbound exit slip road at junction 9 will also be closed throughout the work. Drivers will be able to follow a clearly-signed diversion route.

M55/M6 Interchange Preston

The eastbound exit slip road from the M55 onto the southbound side of the M6 at junction 32 will be closed overnight from midnight on Sunday 20 September until 6am on Monday 21 September for bridge maintenance work. A diversion will be in place.

M56 Junction 11 Daresbury

A major project is taking place to tackle congestion at junction 11 of the M56 near Daresbury. Clearly signed diversions will be in place when roads are closed.

M60 Junction 8 Sale to M62 Junction 20 Rochdale

A major scheme is taking place to cut congestion and improve journey times on parts of the M60 and the M62 in Greater Manchester. The scheme will require some overnight closures affecting the full carriageway and slip roads, with a 50mph speed limit in place for the safety of workers and drivers. The project is due to be completed in autumn 2017.

M62 Junction 10 / M6 Junction 21a Croft Interchange

The exit slip roads from the westbound M62 onto the northbound M6, and from the eastbound M62 onto the southbound M6 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 5am (Monday to Friday), from Monday 14 September while repair work takes place on the motorway bridges. Drivers will be able to follow clearly-signed diversion routes. Narrow lanes and a temporary 50mph speed limit will also be in place on the slip roads during the day. The scheme is due to be completed in November.

A556 Knutsford to Bowdon

A £192 million project is being carried out to create a new dual carriageway linking the M56 to the M6 in Cheshire. A temporary 40mph speed limit is currently in place between Bucklow Hill and Bowdon, and the new dual carriageway is expected to open in winter 2016/17. The entry slip road onto the westbound M56 from the southbound A556 at junction 8 will be closed overnight, between 9pm and 6am, on Friday 18 September and again, 24 hours a day, for around four weeks from 9pm on Monday 21 September. The A556 will also be closed overnight, in both directions, between Bowdon Roundabout and Bucklow Hill between Friday 18 September and Friday 2 October, with no closures planned on Saturday or Sunday nights. Cherry Tree Lane will also close at its junction with the southbound A556 for around six months from 9pm on Monday 21 September, with a clearly-signed diversion in place.
