A pensioner has been struck down in a shocking collision in Birkdale.
Police have closed off the majority of Birkdale Village centre this afternoon following the road traffic collision involving a van and an elderly woman outside Birkdale Cheese Centre shortly before 11.30am.
The van’s driver has been detained for questioning by police and the road is closed between Welbeck Road and Alma Road while an investigation is carried out.
The 80 year old woman was treated at the scene for injuries to her head and legs before being taken to hospital.
Police have confirmed to OTS News a statement will be issued shortly.
