A 34-year-old female pedestrian was killed during the early hours of this morning (Saturday 21st July 2012) on Town Lane,  Kew, Southport.

The woman who has not been named was struck by a Ford S Max near to Southport & Formby DGH.   Her body was dragged underneath the vehicle for about 100 yards.

Fire-fighters from Southport arrived at scene and found the woman trapped underneath the car.  She was released after crews used lifting equipment to raise the vehicle.

Police closed the road and an investigation is underway.  The road has since reopened.

The vehicle was removed from the scene by FMC Recovery

 UPDATE

Merseyside police have arrested a teenager in connection with this mornings fatal RTC on Town Lane, Kew, Southport.

He is currently being questioned by detectives.

The 17-year-old Formby man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

 UPDATE: 23.07.12 – Merseyside Police can confirm that the 17 year old man arrested on Saturday, on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

A post-mortem examination has been carried out on the woman and the cause of death has been withheld pending further tests.
