An 81 year-old man was taken to hospital after colliding with a car on Lord Street in Southport.

The emergency services were called to a stretch of Lord Street outside Sainsbury’s at around 7.25am this morning. An 81-year-old man suffered a suspected fractured knee, and injury to his forehead, said a spokesman for the ambulance service. The man was taken to Southport and Formby district hospital by ambulance.

He had collided with a blue Rover. The 79-year-old driver of the Rover stopped at the scene, on Lord Street. He took a breath test, which showed no trace of alcohol, police said. Lord Street was not closed.

A police spokesman said they would look to find out more about the circumstances surrounding the accident. Witnesses should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
