Patrick Hurley, MP for Southport and the Northern Parishes, has welcomed new funding for Mighty Radio, which has received £23,000 from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s £1 million Community Radio Fund for 2025/26. This year’s funding round saw a significant uplift, enabling support for 47 community radio stations across the UK.

With this grant, Mighty Radio will be able to strengthen the financial stability of their station and long-term sustainability, supporting the delivery of locally produced content and the development of skills within the community.

The Government’s decision to boost community radio funding for 2025/6 forms part of its Plan for Change, which aims to support economic growth by creating more jobs and training opportunities across the country.

Patrick Hurley MP for Southport and the Northern Parishes said:

“Mighty Radio is a brilliant platform, providing essential local information and support, and giving voices to the people of our community.

“I want to offer my congratulations to the station on the award of this grant, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication they show in bringing locally significant news to the people of Southport.

“This significant allocation is a signal of the Government’s support for community radio, and I’m delighted the benefits are being felt here in my constituency.”
