Patrick Hurley speaks out on the closure of Sandpipers respite centre

By On The Spot News11th October 2024

After the news of the closure of both Sandpipers respite centre and the charity Revitalise, Patrick Hurley MP has expressed concern and disappointment for the families and individuals with complex care needs who rely on these holidays and breaks.

In a statement Revitalise Respite holidays said “Despite every effort to ensure the charity’s survival, the financial challenges we face have become insurmountable.”

Mr Hurley commented: “It’s utterly shocking and heartbreaking to see that Revitalise are planning on closing the Sandpipers down. The charity sector as a whole has come under huge cost pressures in recent years, as they’ve seen financial support wither away as government cuts bite, and people have less and less to donate to good causes. It’s just such a shame that they couldn’t keep going until things turn around.”

The local Southport MP echoed Revitalise’s call for urgent action in their statement , “policy makers take heed of the critical state of affairs in the social care sector and ensure that respite is properly funded.”. Patrick Hurley MP has pledged to push for proper funding for the social care sector and respite care.

Patrick Hurley writes to government ministers to adequately fund respite care:

“I’m writing today to government ministers to ensure that adequate funding for respite care is built into their spending plans for the coming years, and that people with complex care needs – and their families – are given the respect and dignity they deserve in government proposals.”

“If anyone would like to speak to me or my office further on this, please email me at patrick.hurley.mp@parliament.uk. I’d be very happy to speak to them and hear their concerns.”
