Pair charged in Portland Street knife attack are finally named

Two men who are charged in connection with a shocking knifepoint robbery at a Southport corner shop have gone before the courts.

John Garnett, 33 and of no fixed abode, was charged with robbery; assault of an emergency worker; and possession of an imitation firearm, while Marley Khan, 28 and of Forest Road, was charged with robbery; and threaten a person with a blade/sharply pointed object.

The incident happened at the McColl’s Coner shop on Portland Street in Southport last week.

One brave staff member suffered minor facial injuries during the ordeal, where attackers used a knife and imitation handgun.

Both Garnett and Khan have since appeared before the courts and have been remanded into custody before they appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday, October 9.
