Recovery vehicles are in the process of rescuing an overturned car from Southport beach after the vehicle left the coastal road and crashed down an embankment.
Police were called to the scene earlier this morning close to the junction of Hesketh Road and a cordon was set up before recovery vehicles were called.
The condition of the vehicle’s occupants is unknown at this time and a statement from Merseyside Police is expected.
The vehicle appears to have lost control in the marshland before flipping over, with the force of the impact setting off the car’s airbags.
An investigation into the cause of the accident is now underway and anyone with any information is asked to contact 101.
