Overnight storms cause Churchtown flood damage

By On The Spot News11th August 2020

Torrential rain has wreaked havoc on Southport after a major storm overnight.

Parts of low lying Southport and Formby in high-risk flood areas have woken up this morning to their roads submerged in inches of rainwater.

Flood prone Verulam Road in Churchtown felt the brunt of the heavy rain and local storm drains are slowly taking the water after being overcome with storm water in the last 12 hours.

Heavy rain also caused flooding around Ainsdale beach which meant rangers had to delay opening the beach car park this morning while the water drained away.
