Lonsdale Park, Litherland is the latest open space in Sefton to receive an outdoor gym for local residents to use.

Sefton Council’s Parks & Greenspace team have been consulting with residents about proposals to install a 5-piece outdoor gym which received overwhelming support

The gym has now been constructed on site and ready to use with Ford ward councillors testing out the equipment.

The gym is free, easy to use and encourages residents to use outdoor space. They are also aimed at improving residents’ health and wellbeing, increasing physical activity and health benefits on a range of lifestyle conditions such as heart disease and strokes.

There are now 39 outdoors gyms scattered across Sefton at popular parks and open spaces.

Cllr Ian Moncur, Cabinet Member Health and Wellbeing, said: “We firmly believe that making our outdoor spaces as pleasant as possible is important to residents’ quality of life.

“The popular outdoor gyms have already shown to improve health by encouraging residents to be more physically active and this new equipment will be a positive addition to Ford ward residents.

“The gyms can be used by most people of any age and fitness keeping them fit and active in a shared space. Having tried them out I’m sure they will be a huge success for our local community.”
