On This Day - 31st October
1863:A great gale wrecked the Norwegian barque Tamworth (621 tons) on the Trunk Hill Bank. The Jessie Knowles rescued all 17 crew. The King of Sweden and Norway later sent Captain Rockliffe a silver medal and £2 to each crew member.
1899:Alderman Thomas Fisher, J.P., the 'father of the Council' (having been elected one of the first councillors on June 1st, 1867), was elected as the third Freeman of the Borough.
1899:High Park Liberal Club was opened by the Marquis of Northampton.
