 Are you sitting comfortably?

Then we shall begin……

The Atkinson, Sefton Libraries and Linaker Children’s Centre are working together to launch a brand new and exciting project that will encourage families to get reading together.

The Story Box course offers families 6 lively sessions full of fun and interactive activities for ages 0-5 years. Each session covers a different much-loved children’s storybook and with it, comes lots of activities and ideas to encourage children’s communication, language and literacy skills.

The children and parents will then be able to borrow a ‘Busy Bag’ that will encourage them continue the fun at home.

Linda Caven, Linaker Children’s Centre said:

“The Story Boxes are a continuation of the Rhyme time model that Library’s already deliver successfully across the borough. By linking it with a well-known title and including fun activities and games we hope it will inspire parents through play and give them confidence to pick other titles and really develop a love for reading with their children at home.

This is a pilot project that starts at The Atkinson’s Children’s library and last 6 weeks. But we hope it will be able to be rolled out across Sefton Libraries in the future. This is a great example of how we work well together to really benefit the families we are trying to help ”

Within The Atkinson Library will be a story time structure themed for each book – it will be a safe but exciting place for parents to sit with their children and really get lost in the story.

The Atkinson was awarded the ‘Most Family Friendly Award’ at the 2016 Southport Ambassador Awards.
