New Grant scheme will help Sefton groups benefit from involvement of volunteers

23rd February 2018

A major new grant scheme will help Sefton organisations gain more benefits from the involvement of volunteers in their work.

Volunteering 4 Good has been launched by Waterloo-based Sefton CVS via its Sefton 4 Good fundraising arm, working in partnership with Sefton Council.

The initiative links in with the local authority’s 2018 Year of the Volunteer campaign which was unveiled in January.

This campaign – following on from the huge success of last year’s Year of the Coast activities – is designed to celebrate the tireless work of the thousands of volunteers in Sefton, and raise awareness of how much they contribute to life in the borough.

From later in the year, Sefton groups will be able to apply for Volunteering 4 Good grants to help them develop new projects involving volunteers.

The grant pot has already been given a significant kickstart thanks to a contribution of £7,000 from Sefton 4 Good funds and £5,000 from Sefton Council’s Transition Fund.

Now the aim over the coming months is to grow the fund coffers via a crowdfunding appeal to enable as many groups as possible to benefit from the initiative.

Sefton CVS Chief Executive, Angela White, commented: “Year of the Volunteer is an excellent initiative, and we hope the Volunteering 4 Good grant scheme will play an important part in its success during the course of 2018.

“The aim of the grants is to help voluntary, community and faith sector groups in Sefton expand the scope of the vital services they provide by harnessing the benefits of volunteer support.

“At the same time, we want to get the message across that volunteering can have many benefits for individuals as well in terms of enabling them to be more active, meet new people and make a contribution to life in their local community.”
