New and Alternative Casino Payment Methods

4th February 2023

Sometimes it seems like new payment methods pop up each day, and honestly, that perception is not far away from the truth. An especially fertile ground for new payment methods is Scandinavia. Nordic countries are open to new and innovative payment systems, and customers are always on a hunt for a bargain, or at least Gilfred Helmonsen (learn more about him here), a gambling expert from Norway, claims so.

The famous online gaming expert is convinced that as soon as new payment methods hit the market, people in Nordic are ready to accept them. But which ones have been the most successful in conquering the market?

AstroPay

Luxon Pay proved to be one of the hottest new payment methods in the whole region, mostly due to the rise of AstroPay Casino brands.

“Luxon Pay is a streamlined and intuitive multi-currency e-wallet that is taking Norway by storm. It supports both fiat and cryptocurrencies, has a reliable foreign exchange and has wonderful customer support, on both the desktop and the mobile app. What else is left to wish for”, asks the gaming expert.

Swish

Swish, on the other hand, is a payment method gaining momentum in Sweden. Initially launched by six large Swedish banks and intended for peer-to-peer transfers, it evolved into one of the most used payment methods in the country.

“Swish is mostly used in the 18-40 age group, and in 2020 was used by 8 million Swedes. It is easy, straightforward, and based on QR payments, so you can forget all about the hassle of having to type bank account number”, reveals Helmonsen. The method is so popular that the term is now used in common Swedish, as a synonym for money transfers.

MobilePay

Denmark is in love with MobilePay, at least 4 million Danes are. Hlmonsen accentuates the fact MobilePay is used by 80% of the population, which is truly impressive.

“It is not surprising to see MobilePay at the very top, as almost 50% of all financial transactions in this Nordic country are done via mobile. People use it on Instagram, Facebook, for P2P payments, and especially at online casinos”, elaborates the casino specialist.

Vipps

In addition to Luxon Pay, there is yet another payment option that captivated the heart of Norwegians – Vipps. Vipps is the most popular payment method among all generations, and 69% of all Norwegians have used Vipps to pay for a product online. What’s the secret of its success?

“It was developed for customers of DNB, but nowadays, customers of all banks can use it. Simple, convenient and very reliable, it is easily accessible to anyone with a Norwegian bank account without complicated setups”, says Helmonsen.

Safety is one of the most appreciated aspects of it. All transfers exceeding 2,000 NOK have to be additionally authenticated via a special identificator issued by the bank. Smaller amounts are approved by entering a special 4-digit PIN code.

Verkkopankki

Finland, an often forgotten Scandi country, also has a horse for this race. Verkkopankki is the name of the game, and although it is not a payment method per se, it still deserves a place on our list.

Helmonsen says it is an expression used to describe all sorts of online transactions. As a highly conservative financial market, Finland is not keen on opening its door to as many payment methods as possible, but that doesn’t really matter, as most people use one or the other “Verkkopankki”.

“Online money transfers in Finland are fast, safe, and cost-effective. No wonder they don’t need any alternatives”, concludes Gilfred.
