National Transplant week 2014 launches this week

People are urged to pass on their donation wishes to loved ones.

Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust is backing this year’s Spell it out! campaign during National Transplant Week (7-13th July 2014) encouraging discussion about organ donation with family and friends.

The annual, UK wide awareness week aims to increase understanding of organ donation and encourage more people to join the NHS Organ Donor Register.

Dr Andrew Kent, Consultant said “It’s really important for families to know your wishes. Evidence shows that over 90% of families will agree to donation if a loved one is registered and has discussed their wishes. This figure drops to 31% if donation wishes aren’t known, so it’s vital to have these conversations now”

National Transplant Week gives the perfect opportunity to tell loved ones just what you would like to happen to your organs in the event of your death. It means much less pressure on families at a time when they will be making these heart-wrenching decisions.
