KGV Music students attended an inspirational workshop at Liverpool University on writing for String Quartet on Wednesday November 14th .

The workshop featured an hour-long performance from the Ensemble of St. Luke’s whose members all play for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Pieces by Mozart, Britten, Dvorak and Hayden were used to illustrate the versatility of the string quartet for composition, after which the students were encouraged to ask questions about specific string-writing techniques and score layout.

The students enjoyed the afternoon and came away with lots of exciting ideas.
